Happy to get your feedback! As you can imagine, I have lots of responsibilities so I can only check in to your comments once in a while. As I often post about tech related things, I do have developers check the comments in case they missed something.

If you have a site question, please use the online feedback form (under Help) to contact customer service as I do not read my blog daily. You can also read more about bug fixes and site status at the sitesupport blog or new things at the community blog.

Testing a new version of member profile page

You might have noticed that you can now view member's photos directly on the member profile page. While we think that this will make viewing profile photos more fun, we want to get your feedback on it. For example, the profile page might take a bit longer to load... but you don't need to then click on other pages to get photos.

You can flip through the photos easily as well as add them to your personal favorite photos list (the link to view them later is in 'My Lists' tab in the navbar).

Update: we are going to roll-back the change for when you view your own profile until we can resolve the issue that some members are unable to view their own profile. You should be able to view other people's profiles with the new look. Thanks for all the feedback. We hope to have it upgraded for your own profile early next week

New blog features out today!

In addition to fixing a number of issues in blogs, today's release includes several member suggested features:

  • Sticky Posts - now you can mark your favorite post to stay at the top of your blogs. The drop-down in the 'Add a post' form shows up to 5 sticky settings (sounds kinky)... posts will be first sorted by these settings then by date.

  • Custom moods - now you can define your own mood for each post in addition to selecting from the default list.

  • Embedded images in posts - similar to blog comments, you can now embed an image in the body of your post (instead of having us put it to the left of your post). Just put \[image \] in your post text.

  • See who's your blog watchers - when you view your own blog, you'll see 'eyes' of visitors who have are watching your blog in the list of visitors (right hand side of your blog).

We continue to work hard to make the blogs even better. Thanks for all your ideas and feedback!

Recent site hiccups and current status

As many know, we have been experiencing technical challenges these past couple of days. There has been a number of different hardware and network-related issues that caused the site to not be fully available - most notably in photo load speed. Our tech team has been working in 16 hours shifts around the clock to rebuild hardware and re-balance the system. They have made significant progress.

They have upgraded the way that photos and other images are delivered. Pages with lots of photos now should come up 2-3 times faster than before.

Our development group has been focusing the last 3 weeks on making current features of the site work better. On June 20th, they released the first phase of the improvements with the next phase coming out July 5th.

I truly am sorry for the inconvenience of our recent site performance. This upcoming week, we will be extending memberships of people affected. We will continue to work hard to improve your experience here.

Any feedback on slight design change on blogs/groups?

As you might have noticed, we tweaked the design of the blog and group pages a bit. We also worked a bit on speeding them up as well - this process is ongoing. We've also doubled the number of databases running blogs and groups.

Our entire development team is currently working on site cleanup, bug fixes, and site speed. We will be pushing live these improvements during the next two weeks.

I'm happy to report that we now have a new blog, SiteSupport, run by our customer service team to better communicate with our members. We set it up as a central place where members can give us feedback publicly as well as we can post when new features go live and bugs are resolved. It will take us a few days to sort out the format.

Feel free to post comments THERE so we can know more about what you'd like to see there. In future, please post site issues on the SiteSupport blog

    Some more bling updates...

First - I am aware that the latest version of the bling editor has a few bugs (suggest avoid the airbrush tool until Monday when the developer will push out a fix to it). Also aware that the editor works best currently using the Firefox browser.

    Second - new bling stuff

    1. Multiple size bling - I turned off the bling stretching that was making the 20x20 bling look bigger - they now look nicer. Also, gold members are able to create bling as large as 40x40. If you are a gold member, you will see links on the bling manager page for the different sizes you can make.

    2. Bling gifts accepting - After getting several "interesting" bling from others and wanting to accept them but not show them on my profile, I modified the accepting process - now when you accept bling, it will only show up on your bling manager page. You can THEN decide which of the bling to show on your profile... the sender will at least know that you accepted it

    3. Most popular bling in last week and most popular paid bling - this way newer cool bling can get some exposure as well as you can see who's making the most points 'selling' bling.

    4. Prettier packing on bling - ok, this one was just fun to code up last night... as we now have different sized bling and want the bling to show up close to each other, had to use a "bin packing" algorithm to find a pretty way to organize bling. You'll see it when you search who has taken a bling as well as the [bling all] tag below

    5. [bling all] tag - got a lot of bling you want to show in your posts and don't want to type in each individually? Just try the following:

[bling all] (defaults to 400 pixels wide)

Added a few more bling in the blings:

    1. You can adjust the zoom of your blings:

    [bling 911] makes

    [bling 911 size=2] makes

    [bling 911 size=3] makes

    Up to size=5.

    2. You can see who has taken your bling in the bling manager. Click on the number in the "20 uses" link to see the list of people (you can also see all the bling they have before going to their profile). There are some SERIOUSLY blinged out members!

    3. Bling access updates - you can only use [bling 123] tags on bling that you create, took, or have been gifted. If you try to use someone elses bling, it will show a Not Bling Owner icon. In the future, we might make a setting to let you let people use your bling without taking it.

We're excited to launch some new features today:

    1. Bling : Members can now create online bling (small graphical icons) to show off their personality. You can use our online bling editor so you can create icons without any special software. You can put lots of blings on your profile, posts, groups, etc as well as trade, sell, or gift them between members. Who knows the possibilities - should be fun to see what members come up with. If you want some of my bling, go to my profile and take some! Click on the link on the main page to manage and create your own bling.

    2. Signatures : You can now create signatures for your blog and group posts. This way people can know more about you when you posts.

    3. Stickies : Group moderators can make their posts "sticky" so they always stay at the top of their group post lists. (no need to keep bumping posts)

    4. Super HTML Chat : This upgrade to our standard HTML chatrooms will make text appear faster as well as eliminate chat "flicker".

    Enjoy!

    Upgraded video introductions

With over 100,000 member video introductions, we needed a better way for members to browse them. Our new video introductions system has several new features:

  • record longer videos. Up to 60 minutes of videos for gold members.
  • set whether you want all members or just your friends to see the videos.
  • add titles, descriptions and keyword tags to each videos (makes it easier for members to find videos)
  • sort videos by the highest voted and most viewed.
  • keep track of your favorite videos by rating them a 5 or better.
  • see how long each video is before you see them.
  • click the "curvy arrow" button on a video to have it play the intro in an "infinite loop".
  • post comments about other members videos (soon we'll add a way to toggle this on/off).
  • see other videos that are similar to the one you are watching.

As we just went live today, it might take a day or two to iron out some functionality issues. It would be helpful to get your thoughts and feedback on the new system as well as ideas for improvement.

Customize the look of your blogs and groups by changing your background colors. Click on the "Colors" link and try it out (you can always return your blog to default colors). You should be able to color individual posts as well.

We in the process of making a change to the way we link to profiles from blogs that *might* make your blog not show up to others. For now, you need to make sure that your profile is "on" if you want your blog to show up in the blog section. Once we complete the software modifications, blog and profile settings will be able to toggle on/off independently. Your profile settings can be modified in the "My Account" tab.
